All Change for Local Bike Shop

BikeAbout Filey, which has been based in the centre of Filey in recent years, has just been taken over by newly established local Community Interest Company, Wheely Active.

Owner and founder of BikeAbout Filey, Richard Hay, who is stepping down in order to retire says:

“I’m so pleased to be passing on the baton to a team of passionate like-minded, cycle-enthusiasts and am confident that the business is in safe hands but now with an opportunity to expand”.

Wheely Active is building on BikeAbout Filey’s community ethos with its aim to make riding a bike fun, safe, affordable and beneficial to people’s health and wellbeing. As well as the established repairs, sales and hire elements of the business, the Wheely Active team with its pool of experienced and qualified instructors, plan to increase the amount of training and instruction being delivered not just in Filey but around the Yorkshire Coast and villages. Bob Houghton, one of Wheely Active’s Directors, says:

“It’s an exciting time for us. We’ve been providing cycle skills and Balanceability to children in and out of school settings throughout the summer months and, thanks to funding from Cycling UK’s Big Bike Revival, our adult instruction has got off to a great start, both riding and repairing skills.”

All enquiries should be directed to info@wheelyactive.org.
