As the festive season approaches, the charming coastal towns of Filey and Hunmanby, along with their neighbouring villages, are gearing up for a month filled with delightful events and activities. Whether you're a local or a visitor, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

The festivities continue on Saturday, 23rd November with two wonderful events. The Winter Craft Market at the Evron Centre runs from 10am to 3pm, offering a variety of handmade goods perfect for holiday gifts. Simultaneously, the Christmas Craft Fair at Muston Village Hall takes place from 10am to 2pm, featuring local artisans and their festive creations. The weekend continues with a Christmas Fair at St Mary’s Church Brooklands on Sunday, 24th November starting at 12 noon.

The following weekend, on Saturday, 30th November, the Filey Southdene Bowling Club Christmas Fair will be held at the Concert Hall in the Evron Centre from 10am to 1pm. This event includes a tombola, raffle, books, jigsaws, and refreshments, with an admission fee of £2. Also on the 30th, the Christmas Fayre in aid of Hull Greyhound Rescue will take place in rooms 21/22 of the Evron Centre from 11am to 2pm. In the evening, enjoy the Sandy Smith Night of the Stars at the Hunmanby Community Centre, featuring performances of songs by Cher, Tina Turner, and more. Tickets are available at ticketsource.co.uk or by calling 07808804390. The show starts at 7.30pm.

Sunday, 1st December marks the beginning of the main festive season with the Filey Lions Trolley Dash. Tickets, priced at just £1, go on sale from 25th November. Later that day, the Filey Sea Cadets Unit in Southdene invites you to "Step into Christmas" from 1pm to 4pm. This event promises a chocolate tombola, cake and craft stalls, and entertainment from the Ta Da’nce School of Dance. Admission is £2 for adults and £1 for children, including refreshments.

For a truly magical experience, head to Humble Bee Farm in Flixton on the same day. The Magical Christmas Experience at Humble Bee Farm offers two enchanting sessions: 2.30pm-3.30pm and 4pm-5pm. Children will be entertained by Emerald the Elf from Magical Quests North, who will lead them on an adventure to find Santa. Each family will have a special visit with Santa in his festive grotto, where children will receive a gift. Kids can also engage in festive crafts, enjoy dancing with Emerald the Elf, and feed the farm animals. The Hive Café Bar will be open, offering hot chocolate, mince pies, mulled wine, and other festive treats. Tickets are £15 per child and £5 per adult (maximum of 2 adults per booking). In the evening, don't miss the Fishtive Tree Switch On at Coble Landing at 6pm.

The Fishtive Tree is a unique and beloved tradition in Filey. Since its inception in 2017, the tree has been constructed from over one hundred crab and lobster pots, celebrating the town’s rich fishing heritage. Inspired by a similar tree in Ullapool, Scotland, the Fishtive Tree stands proudly on Coble Landing, topped with a golden fish. The name "Fishtive Tree" was coined by a pupil from Filey Junior School during a poster design competition. The tree is lit up with twinkling lights, creating a festive coastal wonderland. The switch-on event includes a spectacular firework display, making it a highlight of the festive season. Visitors are encouraged to make donations, which help fund the tree's return each year and support local youth projects.

Sunday, 8th December offers a variety of events. St Mary’s Church hosts a Christmas Raffle, while Gristhorpe & Lebberston Village Hall holds a Christmas Fair from 12 noon to 3pm, featuring craft stalls, a raffle, tombola, and a visit from Santa. The Farmer Christmas Tractor Run is another highlight, starting at Wold Newton at 3.30pm. This festive event features 150 festively decorated tractors gathering at Foxholes from 1:30pm before setting off on their route. The tractors will pass through several villages, including Wold Newton at 3:45pm and Hunmanby at 4:20pm, before continuing to Burton Fleming, Rudston, Kilham, Langtoft, and back to Foxholes. The event raises much-needed funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, adding a charitable spirit to the festive fun.
