If you’ve got the ingredients, you just might be good enough
From this August, Filey Food Festival is introducing a new dimension designed to give you the chance to show off your own culinary skill. Have you got what it takes?
This innovation is the brainchild of Chris Elley, one of the food festival’s founders and a key adviser in the early days. The theme for the inaugural competition is cakes… but with a twist.
The cakes must celebrate someone famous. This could be done through its design or through its ingredients. Imagine what a Carmen Miranda cake might contain! All you need is a pinch of imagination and a teaspoonful of flair.
Marion Wright and Rosella La Tufo from Bella Italia will make up the judging panel. Winners in each category will receive a prize, with the winner of the adult category receiving a signed copy of the celebrated, multi-Michelin star holder Marco Pierre White’s latest book.
Every entrant will win a free online cookery lesson from Sarah Pittaway from CookStars Hull East and Holderness. The cookery class is scheduled for Sunday 20th August at 1pm to make coconut and lime cupcakes.
Entrants will receive details of the class via email so an email address will be required on the entry form.
There will be three categories:
Adults 1st prize: Signed copy of Marco Pierre White’s book White Heat 25
Age 12-17 1st prize: £20 gift voucher
Age 5-11 1st prize: 54-piece Baking and Cooking Set
Entry is free, with entry forms available in this edition of Filey Bay Today and online.
The deadline for entries is 5th August and judging will take place in Room 11 of the Evron Centre on Saturday 12th August.
Cake Off entries are to be brought to Room 11 between 10am and 10.30am, judging will take place at 11am and the winners will be announced on the Evron Centre Terrace behind rooms 20/21 at 12pm.
