£9.3 million Filey Field scheme celebrates its recent opening

A new Extra Care Living scheme on North Cliff Drive in Filey, has celebrated its first few months in the community with a grand opening event.

Filey Fields Court, a £9.3 million development from Housing 21, welcomed over 80 guests to its grand opening event.

The Extra Care scheme on North Cliff Drive is a purpose-built development offering 70 one- and two-bedroom apartments, to people over the age of 55.

Housing 21 is a national leading provider of Retirement Living and Extra Care and has worked in partnership with Scarborough Borough Council and North Yorkshire County Council to deliver this scheme. Chantelle Downes, Housing and Care Manager at Filey Fields, said: “The open day was a huge success, I was so pleased to see a huge turnout. The staff and residents at Filey Fields played a huge part in making the day so wonderful. We’re excited to open our doors to the community and welcome our new residents.”


The grand opening event on 29 April 2022, saw attendance from the Mayor of Filey, Cllr Jacqui Houlden-Banks and the Mayor of Scarborough, Cllr Eric Broadbents.

On the day, attendees enjoyed a performance from Filey Junior School, and local band, At the Hop. There were also talks from representatives of Scarborough Borough Council and North Yorkshire County Council.


Filey Fields is just one of the new developments from Housing 21. The organisation has one of the largest build programmes for older peoples’ housing in the country and aims to develop up to 800 new Retirement Living and Extra Care properties a year.

Andrew Rowe, Head of Housing at Scarborough Borough Council, said: “We are delighted to open North Yorkshire’s 26th Extra Care scheme here in Filey. This development has been a true partnership effort between the local community, County and Borough Councils and our partners at Housing 21.

Extra Care offers people a safe, secure place to live which promotes independence and ensures people can go on living the life they choose with the peace of mind that on-site support brings should it be needed.”


Richard Webb, North Yorkshire’s Corporate Director for Health and Adult Services, said: “Filey Fields will provide a valuable asset for the community, we are very pleased to see this facility open. Extra Care is a proven service and expanding in this area will provide a welcome improvement for those who need assistance to live happily and safely.”
